Kelvin MacKenzie and his big mouth
Kelvin MacKenzie was once the editor of the Sun newspaper. He knows all about privacy. He advocates the US model, after working on US newspapers, and is very vocal about the judge driven privacy laws in the UK.
He is media through and through and his big mouth on BBC4's today programme (as we reported here) has caused consternation in the world of hacks. The fact an unelected civil servant can pass in the High Court a pronouncement that lets people who are hiding behind injunctions subpoena the media's emails to ensure they haven't told anyone about their injunction is well quite frankly something you only read about in cold war spy novels.
The precedent this sets is horrendous. Will this mean those with large wallets will be able to gag and sue the press and effectively control the media? You bet.
However, we cannot find the Kelvin MacKenzie quotes from the BBC Radio 4 Today programme. The agendas and podcasts are below. Let us know if you find it. We couldn't.
However there is an extensive interview and debate on the May 11, 2011 Media Show.
But again nothing about MacKenzie emailing super injunction details to people.
These people think it was on the 16th May programme. Where?
